Lynn Cartlidge presents the resolution to Herlon Pierce

BEFORE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE

PEARL & LEAF RIVERS RAILS-TO-TRAILS RECREATIONAL DISTRICT

RESOLUTION HONORING

HERLON D. PIERCE

WHEREAS, HERLON PIERCE, a longtime resident of Jefferson Davis and Lamar Counties with deep roots in the community, desired to delay his retirement and contribute to the education and betterment of the citizens of Jefferson Davis, Forrest, and Lamar Counties by accepting the appointment as the first and only Trail Manager of the Longleaf Trace; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Pierce was and is widely and deeply respected for his commitment to providing for the creation, construction, and day-to-day management of the Longleaf Trace; and,

WHEREAS, he was appointed in 2000 to serve as trail manager and has served in that capacity for more than a decade, his service both personally and professionally exhorting others to follow his example; and,

WHEREAS, as a graduate of the Mississippi State University’s School of Engineering, he has in the past served as Executive Director of the Pat Harrison Waterway District, City Engineer for the City of Hattiesburg, and as a staff engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers with distinction; and,

WHEREAS, his colleagues gather with his friends and family and members of the community to honor him for his many years of service to the people of south Mississippi, and more specifically, for a decade of service to those who love and support the Longleaf Trace.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED, RESOLVED AND ADJUDICATED by the Board of Directors of the Pearl & Leaf Rivers Rails-To-Trails Recreational District, that all matters, facts, and things hereinabove set out and set forth be the order of the Board and that HERLON PIERCE be honored for his achievements and outstanding service by the people of south Mississippi with the honor of today's recognition and dedication.

SO ORDERED AND ADJUDGED this the 9th day of December, A.D. 2009.

The motion having received the affirmative vote of a majority of all the members of the Board of Directors of the Pearl & Leaf Rivers Rails-To-Trails Recreational District, the President declared the motion carried and the Resolution adopted on the 9th day of December, 2009.
